King Aims For Opening Success
The Romford based cueman will be making his twelth appearance at the famous venue and aims to finish his season with a flourish. He knows taking on the six-time winner will not be an easy task.
"If I don't play well I won't win. Steve is a great ambassador for the game and I have untold respect for him.
"Some people have been thinking I have an easy draw, I don't know why? I had a couple of texts come through after the draw came out but I think Steve put it right in an interview when he said, I suppose we're both happy with it. He's happy getting me rather than Ronnie and I'm happy to get him than someone who's flying I suppose.
"It will still be a tough, tough game. I'm really looking forward to it and just want to get there and play.
Despite not making the quarter-finals in his previous 11 visits to Sheffield, King has found form this season since his first round defeat in Shanghai. He reached the last 16 of the next three tournaments before making the quarter-finals in Beijing earlier this month before losing to fellow Essex player, Ali Carter.
King opens his campaign against Davis on Monday April 19 (7pm) and they play to a finish on Tuesday April 20 (7pm).
